2012 WIN for KC Women’s Sports Awards Celebration – Judy Swofford
By admin
Judy Swofford THE UMB SENIOR SPORTSWOMAN AWARD Judy Swofford became a grandmother 22 years ago. At that time, she was an accomplished runner and had completed her first marathon. She was also an avid tennis player. When she relocated to Kansas City years ago, she joined a tennis club where she created new friendships. She first encouraged fitness to her grandchildren through her own dedication to sports and fitness. Judy has taught all of her grandchildren to play tennis and has participated in organized road races with them throughout their lives. Two of her grandsons played high school tennis and continue to enjoy this activity in college. Judy continues to play tennis with her grandkids, and she gives them a run for their money. At age 70, Judy learned to ride a bike and to swim so she could compete in her first triathlon. Every step of her training brought on a new challenge and her confidence was tested with each new threshold she crossed. She even broke a bone in her hand a month before the triathlon, but she would not give up her training. Since the event, she has encouraged friends and even strangers to participate next year, and many of them will because of her example. She is truly an inspiration to us all.

We corner Orbea USA’s president and get him to spill it on the slightly revised 2011 Orbea Ordu triathlon bike. For full details and photos, check out Bikerumor.com.
