An exciting menu of racing, provided by the two rounds of the World Cup held in Vargarda, Sweden have set the scene for a wonderful finale in three week’s time at the GP de Plouay in France. Despite atrocious conditions for the team time trial and only the second half of the road race covered in sunny conditions, Vargarda’s events were run in front of large crowds. The team trial result confirmed Cervelo Test Team’s continued domination in World Cup TTTs. In their various carnations and team names, the squad has never been beaten. They made their point by beating next-placed HTC-Columbia Women by over a minute. Third was Nederland Bloeit, over two minutes in arrears. Nederland Bloeit’s Marianne Vos arrived in Sweden as World Cup leader and left as such too. However, thanks to an exciting finale in the road race on Sunday, her lead has been cut to just 18 points over rival Kirsten Wild (Cervelo Test Team) with just the Plouay round remaining. A trademark early break by Emma Pooley (Cervelo Test Team) was watched and left to hang at around a minute for several of the 12 laps of the eleven kilometre course. The race really only opened up in the last 25km. Vos attacked, followed by a dozen others, including Johansson and several Cervelo Test Team riders. Ten kilometres later, a small group including Kirsten Wild (Cervelo Test Team) bridged across to the leaders.
