What I’m Loving This Week & Leg Update

By admin

A week has come and gone!

What a week it was.

For us, it was filled with a lot of mixed emotions.

One minute, everything would be fine. I even started getting in some workouts!

The next, I would find myself losing my patience and wanting to do nothing but throw my wretched crutches across the room.

I’ve worked really hard to stay positive and I am happy to report I’ve only experienced 1 mini-breakdown which happened after I fell going up the stairs to our 2nd story condo. I was fine, just extremely frustrated.

Dan had a few highs and lows too as he isn’t used to having to do EVERYTHING. In a healthy world, I cook, clean, take care of the animals… basically I run the house (trust me he does plenty! Always working). He’s doing great but has had a few “I’m just overwhelmed!” moments himself.

He’s allowed. Its a lot to suddenly have to take on. But I’m blessed to have a husband that is able to step up to the plate when needed.

As for the leg itself…

I met with the orthopedist on Wednesday afternoon, just 5 days post break.

I was surprised to see how swollen my ankle and foot were when the temporary cast was removed! My little toes looked like sausages and I have quite the cankle.

The break looks like it’s going to heal easily and I was excited to find out that I did not have to get a plaster cast, but just a boot instead!

YAY!

The bad news?

I have to be on crutches for the entire 6 weeks.

For some reason, I thought that once the pain subsided, I would be able to put weight on the boot. Sadly, no.

At least I get to shower like a normal person, and my doctor even wants me to take the boot off a few times per day to work on ankle mobility so I’m not crazy stiff at the end!

Okay, so that’s the update.

Now, let’s get to some fun stuff…

What I’m Loving

Teal Qalo Ring

qalo ring

Have you seen these? They are silicone wedding bands for people who workout, are in the military, fire fighters, etc.

People who can’t wear their real rings.

Back in February, I bought Dan a black one because he never wears his black titanium ring (it’s heavy and not fun to wear during workouts). I also bought myself a white one, but it was a size too small and the white wasn’t as cool as I thought it would be.

So when Dan recently lost his ring (he always loses his rings), I ordered him a new one and ordered myself the teal Qalo.

How cute is the little kettlebell imprint? Not all of them have this, just the athletic version of the rings.

I love wearing it during the week at the gym. I don’t have to take it off to do kettlebells, its comfortable and it saves me that “oh no, where are my rings!?!” feeling that I get each time I take them off… which happens frequently throughout the day when I’m at the gym.

So yea, I love these. They’re cheap and they’re awesome. I used the Girls Gone Wod Podcast Promo Code… “GGW” to get 15% off.

ProCompression Tights

Perhaps the best deal of the year. Last month, Procompression ran a special deal for something like 50% (or maybe even 60%) off their tights.

With the trip to Glacier around the corner, I wanted something that would offer stability to my knees during our hikes, so I took advantage of the deal and went for it.

Oh man, you guys, these are the best. They are flattering, offer great compression and Dan couldn’t stop slapping my butt. ← the ultimate sign of a good pair of workout tights, of course.

Calcium Caramel Chews

These babies are like candy!

My first outing was to load up on all the necessary vitamins to help speed up bone recovery. Of course, calcium being one of them. Because I am like a child and love vitamin chews instead of pills, I grabbed these. So good!

My counter looks like a small pharmacy right now, and these are the shining stars.

I have to remind myself… just 2 per day!

Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut Butter

I don’t know what I was thinking when I bought this for my shakes at the gym. From the moment I opened it, I couldn’t keep my spoon/finger out of the jar.

I’ve had Justin’s Hazelnut Butter before, so I should have known that I would have no self control. After a few days of nut butter binging, I had to give the rest to Ashton!

It’s basically nut butter crack.

Alamo Car Rental

One of the first questions I asked my nurse at the ER were tips on driving my car (it’s a stick). He laughed and kindly said, there would be no stick shift driving in the near future.

Ugh.

Dan can’t drive my car, so we agreed to rent a car for the first week to give him time to learn.

Alamo upgraded me to a small SUV free of charge and I have been loving driving a Jeep.

This is the second time we’ve rented from them, both times leading to an upgrade and both times they were offering the lowest deals in Charleston (I use Priceline).

I think I’m paying just $ 13/day right now for a new Jeep Cherokee.

Food I’m Loving On The Web

I guess because I can’t get fancy in the kitchen right now, I am craving baking and cooking like it’s my job (it kind of is).

I’ve been drooling over a few recipes online that I can not wait to make when I can stand up long enough to!

What’s something you’re loving?
