People in New Delhi and Noida were inconvenienced after several roads were closed or diverted for the Commonwealth Games cycling event on Wednesday. The cycling time-trail event that is taking place on the 17-mile express highway has resulted in huge traffic snarls. Angry commuters were caught in unmoving traffic for as long as four hours. [Ramesh Singh, Commuter]: “They should have planned out the road diversions properly. This is not the way. Someone has to reach the office or hospital, everybody has to be on time. It is a big problem.” [BN Sahli, Commuter]: “It has been one-and-a-half hours that I’ve been stuck in this traffic jam. It’s quite a heavy traffic… I don’t know when I will reach the office.” Instances of road rage were seen in the midst of unmoving traffic, where nerves frayed and tempers snapped. Various roads connecting Delhi and Noida were closed due to the Women’s cycling event that began at 10:30 am on Wednesday, followed by the men’s event at 1 pm.
