Would I Try Body By Vi? My All Too Honest Review
By admin
I know what you really want, to get an update on my poor pinky toe, right? Well, it hurts like you know what. Warning: if you don’t like bruises, quickly scroll past the fist image.
I thought I would be tough and get my workout in yesterday as planned, but the second I got my shoe on, by toe let me know it had no intentions of it.
24 Hours Post Jam
I guess I’ll take the unexpected rest day. I mean I did run 8-miles on Saturday, so I am not feeling totally lazy and off track. That just means that Dan and I have changed our workout days to be today, Wednesday and Friday instead. And yes, I am thinking that today I will bypass the workout shoes and go bare. I’ll let you know how that goes.
Shake It Up
I am not sure if I have mentioned it before, but I was a sorority girl back in the day: Chi Omega. Any other Chi O’s out there?
Hard to believe this was 7 years ago!
I loved the sisterhood of it, and it’s great now because I meet new clients, bloggers and friends all the time that are sisters. Pretty cool. In fact, my sister-in-law is even a Chi O… so I say we’re “double sisters”.
I don’t live around any of my fellow Winthrop Chi O’s but thankfully I keep in touch with a few (thanks to Facebook). One of my sorority sisters, Katie, has recently been talking all about her weight loss shake business called Body By Vi. She is a seller for the brand and after seeing about 1000000 posts about them, I had to learn more. Props for the repetitive marketing Katie! It worked.
You know I am always looking for a good (protein) shake so I bugged her to send me some samples to test out (her manager assured me they were vegan). Since I have yet to find a protein powder I really liked I was more than willing to give Body By Vi a go.
What’s Body By Vi?
First off, it’s not really a protein shake. It’s more of a meal supplement. The company urges clients to take a Body By Vi 90-Day Challenge. Where they give you a supplemental kit filled with shakes, vitamins, and such.
Aka, it’s a short term diet which you know isn’t my cup of tea. But here’s the details according to the brand:
And since you’re not going to see me go on a 90-day shake fast, lets’ cut to the stuff I do support, the shake product.
You don’t have to take a 90 day shake fast to get results and enjoy the brand. Having a supplement shake is a great idea for on the go breakfasts, post workout snacks and a mid afternoon go to meal.
Protein Shake It Up
The Good:
- The powder has just 90 calories, 12 grams of protein, 7 grams of carbs, and 1 gram of fat. It’s loaded with vitamins and minerals.
- Taste wise it was DELICIOUS. Katie had told me it tasted like cake batter and I have to agree!
- It mixed very well, extremely creamy and lacked that sandiness that several shakes have: I enjoyed mine with 1/2 banana, 1 cup almond milk served in an almost empty sunflower butter jar. Yum!
- Having the bit of added protein did help keep me fuller longer, which when waking up at 5 am is always a plus!
- Great for cooking, I haven’t had a protein pancake in forever, and the powder did fabulously for creating batter! The powder just adds an extra dimension that I miss out by making my regular vegan cakes (oats, banana, chia seeds, almond milk).
The Bad:
Unfortunately for me there was a negative side: I was a bit disappointed to see “whey” protein listed in the ingredients… clearly not vegan. But I didn’t get the ingredient list until after I tried the shake (Katie had sent me some of hers in pre-measured baggies). But unless you’re vegan it’s still a great option.
Bottom line…
Katie raves about this product, and I have seen her transform her body and maintain it. While I am a firm believer that weight loss should be through lifestyle changes (diet and nutrition), Body By Vi might be a great way to jump start the weight loss process. As long as it’s understood that after the 90-days, going back to old habits isn’t an option. That would be a disaster and you would be trying to sign up for another 90-days all over again.
So, will you see me signing up for a “kit”… no. And unfortunately since they shakes have whey protein in them, you won’t see me buying them either, but if whey is in your diet and it doesn’t upset your stomach (it can cause a feeling of bloat and gas) then go for it!
- Have you ever tried a “shake” based diet?
- Where you in a sorority or club in college?
When I first went vegan, I relied a lot on green shakes for lunches to get lots of vitamins, minerals and calories. I still love them but luckily I have expanded on my cooking skills!
Tomorrow I have quite the treat for you. Here’s a hint:
Oh yea… I am so excited to share this!!
See ya tomorrow!
