Friendly Friday: Going NuttZo For Speed

By admin

It’s Friday! And the last friday of July. How did that happen?

The summer is flying by and I am hoping to be able to take some time to enjoy it this weekend.

It’s driving me nuts that I have only been to the beach once! Clearly, I need some quality time with a good book and a beach chair.

Something else driving me nuts?

(like that transition?)

NuttZo.

I am in love with this nut butter.

I saw it a few months ago at Whole Foods and finally decided to give it a go.

What sets it apart from the others?

Nuttzo isn’t “almond butter” or “peanut butter” or “cashew butter”… it’s made from 7 different types of nuts and seeds.

  • Cashews
  • Almonds
  • Brazilian Nuts
  • Chia Seeds
  • Flax Seeds
  • Hazelnuts
  • Pumpkin Seeds
  • Sea Salt (you know I love this!)

Which means you get the benefits of 7 different nut butters in one upside down jar. In fact, one serving can deliver up to 75% of your recommended daily requirement of ALA Omega-3s. You can check out all the NuttZo nutritional benefits on their website… it’s pretty impressive!

And it’s peanut free, not that this bothers me, but I know a lot of people avoid peanuts because they’re technically not nuts (they’re legumes).

Nuttzo is a small company with a great story…

“Fitness and nutrition have always been an integral part of my life. After adopting two boys from the Ukraine who were vitamin deficient, I became even more focused on preparing creative, flavorful, super-nutritious foods. NuttZo is an Omega-3 powerhouse of nutrition blended into a delectable butter.” – Danielle (founder)

It’s really creamy, and even though the price per jar isn’t something I can afford on a weekly basis, I will likely pick up a jar once a month or so as a great nut butter treat.

Remember, I am a nut butter snob.

Getting My 1/2 Marathon Training On

Last week kicked off my 1/2 marathon training and as hard as it might be to believe, I’m actually following a plan!

It’s the first time ever, so I am curious to see how race day goes (October 20th).

If you’re curious, I am following a plan from Runner’s World for intermediate runners. Of course, I refuse to follow it to a “t” because I love my weights and my speed work far too much, so I made a few tweaks to keep my life sane.

So far, so good.

Aside from my weight training, speed workouts are my favorite. I actually go to bed excited to wake up at 5am to get my track practice in.

I don’t know if it’s the actual workouts (speed workouts are killer) or because I enjoy doing them with my running group, which by the way, has grown from being just Katie and myself to include 2 other ladies: Amy and Michelle.

The more the merrier!

Because it’s Friendly Friday and I thought I would share with you my favorite speed workout from the past few weeks.

Just like my strength programs, the workout we do changes regularly. It’s never boring. We all bring a workout idea to the track and then vote on what to do.

Democracy at its finest.

I posted this up on the Facebook page last week, but thought it deserved a spot here too. If you’re not following LR on Facebook, why the heck not?

Why do speed work?

Whether you’re training for a race or not, speed work is a great way:

  • Increase speed (duh) and pace
  • Increase endurance
  • Increase calorie burn
  • Decrease the amount of time you do cardio (the faster you run, the more calories you burn)
  • A great way to change things up
  • Improve muscle tone (look at a sprinter versus a marathoner to see what I mean).
  • It’s fun!

Trust me on this one and do this workout soon.

Make It A Friendly Friday!

I would love to hear from you:

Share below one thing that you’re loving lately AND

If you’re feeling EXTRA friendly, share this post :)

Happy Friday! Cheers.
