Apple Pie Cereal Recipe {Vegan} & Phili Recap Part 2
By admin
Good morning! I hope your morning is a bit brighter than mine… we’re being hit hard with rain bands and all I want to do is sit on the couch, watch a movie and eat some peanut butter (straight from the jar of course). But I am going to stay strong, fight these lazy urges and power through the day!
Last you and I left off, I had just arrived in Phili from DC. When ever we go visit my in-laws it’s instant go-go-go and this time was no different. Within 5 minutes of walking through the door my mother-in-law wanted to take Dan and I to a local farm to pick our own produce.
She knows we love the farmer’s market and thought that this would be a fun experience. I was game, and after a bit of nudging and telling Dan it would be a great chance to practice photography, he was on board. He didn’t disappoint.
So we made the 20 minute drive to Linvilla Orchards to see what we could gather!
We started off with tomatoes…
Then moved to peppers…
And ended the veggie picking with eggplant…
So Much Sunshine!
Then we walked over to the sunflowers, I am in love with sunflowers, how can they not make you smile? I’ve never seen such a large patch before and I was in awe!
None of these pictures have been edited, they really were this colorful and bright!
The bees were crazy in love with them too so I made sure to keep my distance (I am allergic to bees) but couldn’t resist getting my picture taken in front of the gorgeous, and EXTREMELY tall flowers.
From the flowers, it was time to hop on a hay ride and do something I have wanted to do for years now:
Apple Picking!
We had attempted to pick apples last year when we visited Phili but got lost on the drive and gave up, so I was beyond stoked to do it this time around. This was my first time picking apples and I made Dan snap a picture to capture my first apple!
I have so many great ideas for ways to use all these guys and I can’t wait for some one on one apple time in the kitchen this weekend!
Of course I couldn’t resist doing some exercises along the way!
I am already enjoying a fresh apple for breakfast each morning. I have developed a warm vegan apple pie cereal that I am in love with! It makes me feel as if fall is in the air and I am ready for it!
Vegan Apple Pie Cereal
Of course you can make this cold too, I just enjoy the warmth and apple pie feel of it!
Ingredients:
- 1 small apple, diced
- 1/2 tsp apple pie spice
- 1/4 cup almond milk (I use unsweetened vanilla)
- 1 tbsp peanut butter
- 1 tbsp granola
Directions:
Mix everything in a bowl (except granola), and heat it up in the microwave for 65 seconds… give it a good stir, sprinkle granola on top and enjoy!
Running With George Washington
After leaving the orchard, we headed to dinner, hung out with family and called it a night. I tried to get to bed nice and early because I had a date with George Washington…
Well, sort of. I was dead set and excited to run Valley Forge (which is about 5 minutes from my in-laws house). My mom-in-law rode her bike while I ran the trails so I wouldn’t be by myself and I would know exactly now to navigate the course.
I was a bit worried because that place is hilly as hell, and being from Charleston hills and I are strangers.
But it was so gorgeous that I just took it hill by hill and scene by scene. In fact, it was the fastest pace I’ve had yet! It didn’t hurt that my mom-in-law would stop every 20 minutes or so to hold out my water bottle… gotta love that!
The trail ended at 7 miles exactly, and I walked away feeling as if that was the best run of my life. It was definitely the most serene run, which is funny because it ended up being the fastest run I’ve done yet for this distance. Maybe I should like hills? Or not.
I also couldn’t help but think of all the history that went on here and I was just running through it. I felt as if I had gone back in time. So cool!
Wedding Time
Then we headed back home, showered up and got ready for the wedding! I don’t have many pictures of the wedding (yet) but I will say we had a blast. We danced the night away in true Taylor-Dan fashion and loved seeing all the family.
It was sad to have to leave so quickly, but at least we got in as much as we could in the time we had.
Questions:
- If you’re a runner, where was your BEST run?
- Have you ever picked your own produce?
- What’s your favorite thing to do with apples?
