Be A Tourist While Working Out + Nike Free 5.0 Review

By admin

Yesterday I briefly mentioned that Dan and I filmed our latest workout for Fit Women’s Weekly at the gorgeous Magnolia Plantation & Gardens here in Charleston.

We’re very blessed to live just minutes away from some of the most beautiful places in our city and we’ve been using that to our advantage lately.

Each workout we’ve filmed over the past 2 months has been in some historic site of Charleston. Talk about being a tourist in your own town, I never thought that working out would allow me to learn so many great things about Charleston.

The sites, sounds, and history makes each workout special, so much better than filming inside a stuffy gym (which was just getting too boring)! I’m hoping for a warm winter so we can keep this going!

Back to Magnolia…

This was the first private site we’ve been able to shoot at. I contacted Magnolia to ask if they would mind if we filmed our Halloween workout there…

And they gladly said yes. Not only that, but they allowed us free rein to choose a spot that would be ideal. And Herb, the nicest guy ever who works at the plantation, was nice enough to take some action shots. Since Dan is always filming, this was a rare treat!

My husband is so cute! He’s often over looked because he’s behind the camera, but this really is a huge team effort!

It took less than 3 minutes of being at the gardens for me to realize how much I’ve missed out by not visiting all of these places! I’m the worst Charlestonian ever. But I’m working to change that!

I want to thank Magnolia Planation for their hospitality and I would like to share with you a great event they’re hosting this weekend… Fright Night.

If you’re in Charleston and looking for something fun to do this weekend, head to the gardens. For just $ 10 enjoy a spooktacular event for the family.

We have a lot of these kinds of things going on, I know, but what I love about this is that it’s great for all ages. Some are a bit too scary for the kids, but I’m really excited to take my niece tomorrow for the evening!

If you’re not in Charleston… then still go out and be a tourist in your own town! Better yet, find a great place and take your workout outdoors!

Friendly Friday Love: Nike Free 5.0

nike free 5.0

I have never denied my love for shoes. From workout shoes to 4-inch stillettos, I love them all.

Recently Brandon from FinishLine contacting me asking if I would like to try the Nike Free 5.0. Dan has been eying these shoes for himself for ages so I knew they had to be good.

As soon as they arrived, I thought “wow, that’s a lot of white!” But I loved the mint green accents. I know, a good workout shoe shouldn’t be about looks per se but let’s face it, we want a shoe that is stylish, right? But they do act as a natural tanner. My legs have not been this tan since July… it’s an illusion and I LOVE it!

I’ve had them for 2 weeks now and have done everything from a 6-mile run to a boot camp workout in them, so I think I can give a proper review…

I love them. I have really been surprised by my recent love for Nike. In college, I hated them. Hated the way they felt. Hated the way my legs felt in them. And hated the look.

Now? I’m a fan! They’ve come a long way.

The Pros

Like my Nike Free Bionics, the Nike Frees are very cushioned and supportive. I love this since I have a rather high arch, the extra cushioning helps to fill in the space.

They are light weight (7.3 oz) which made them great for my short – mid distance funs.

As far as the “white” goes… it’s actually come in handy. Many of my runs happen around dusk before I teach a boot camp. With the sun going down earlier each day, it’s actually been really nice having the reflective shine that the white offers (which is what it was designed for), since I am normally in black capris and some dark colored workout top.

Dan loves these shoes, I think if he could fit into them he would wear them. Perhaps a Christmas present? Because I’m in fitness clothes all the time, I make an effort to buy clothes that I think Dan would like too since he has to see me in them all the time. Of all my workout shoes, these are his favorite. Extra bonus points.

The Cons

There are a few negatives with this shoe for some people… It’s quite tight for me around the top of my foot. Even with the laces loosened, I can see how it would be uncomfortable for some. It’s great for narrow, skinny footed runners, but make sure to try them on first to see how they feel.

They run a bit small. Mine are a 7 which is what size I’ve been for years… but I think I should have gone with the 7.5 as my toes have found the front of the shoe a time or two during runs.

White gets dirty. I’ve tried to keep them extra clean, but let’s face it, it’s impossible to keep anything white clean for long. Running outside means dirt stains and water splashes. With my colored shoes, this gets masked but that’s a bit impossible.

Overall

Overall I love these, and I am even contemplating a long run in them. I still love my Mizunos, but they’re on their last leg. So I’ve been testing these to see if the could fill their shoes (haha)… I’ll let you know!

If you’re interested, check them out here!

What’s your favorite running shoe?
