Friendly Friday: I MixMyOwn Muesli?

By admin

And yes… that is the way I intended the headline to read. :)

TGIF!

We’ve made it, another week down, another weekend ahead of us. And what a weekend it’s going to be!

Dan and I finally rented paddleboards for tomorrow! Since spring we’ve been saying “this summer, we need to try stand up paddleboarding“.  We’ve had the best of intentions, but one weekend passes after another and suddenly it’s football season? How does that happen?

So we finally got our “stuff” together and made reservations to have 2 boards for the entire day. I can’t wait!

Of course, for a full day out of the water, plus a run (which will go down before the water expedition), we’ve got to be properly fueled up.

And that’s where this week’s Friendly Friday comes in:

Mix My Own Cereal

The company contacted me a few weeks ago after reading on the blog how much I love breakfast.

Yes, I go to bed excited to wake up… not because it’s a new day but because it’s breakfast time. Best. Meal. Ever.

When they asked if I wanted to create my own bag of muesli, I jumped at the chance.

MixMyOwn.Com is very easy to navigate and do just as the name suggest, mix your own bag of muesli, cereal or oats.

First, I chose my base. I decided on the Gluten Free Oats Muesli

Then, came the fun part: Choosing the “add-ins”

There were so many options. And I loved the descriptions (along with benefits) listed out for each.

In My Mix:

  • Coconut
  • Quinoa puffs
  • Whole Kamut
  • Mulberries
  • Flaxseed
  • Poppy seeds
  • Guarana (a new to me plant that apparently has crazy amounts of caffeine)
  • Chia seeds
  • Vanilla (an entire bean)

2 days later, my bag arrived on my door step and I immediately tore in. Personally, I love cereal but I love it even more sprinkled on top of my shakes. So that’s what I’ve been doing. Just to add some extra texture each day and give my shakes more substance.

I’ve also used the muesli for overnight oats and it turned out great. It saved me time because everything was already there, I just scooped and poured some almond milk on top… and a dollop of peanut butter.

Here’s the nutrition on my bag:

I was really impressed by the turnover time between ordering and receiving my cereal. I also love that it’s a small company started but by a husband and wife team in America (gotta love the couple teams).

Here’s what they had to say:

“We are Klara and David, a young couple from Europe (Now in the US) who decided to turn our passion for breakfast foods and healthy living into an innovative new business. We developed a custom mixed cereal business because we enjoy a healthy lifestyle and love nutritional breakfast cereals of many kinds (except for those that are covered in sugar, colored by artificial colors, and packed with added fat). We choose healthy, all-natural options every day.”

And on that note, I have to go and make some breakfast before heading to boot camp.

What’s your favorite breakfast?

Favorite meal of the day?

I love pancakes, I don’t think anything can ever top a great pancake that is loaded with blueberries and a dollop of nut butter. I don’t think I have to declare my favorite meal of the day.
