Friendly Friday: Summer Time Smoothie Edition & Cherry Lemonade Shake Recipe

By admin

It’s Friday? Already? Awesome! The great thing about Monday holidays is that Friday gets here a lot faster.

It also means that tomorrow is race day… again. I love running 5Ks because they push me to work on speed, however I am very excited to have a Saturday where I can enjoy a nice, mellow long run. No chip, or bib, just me and my audio book.

Next week it is… but for now let’s not talk running, racing or even lifting (did you do the planks?). Instead let’s talk food. Specifically, smoothies.

When the weather gets hot, I start craving smoothies like its my job. I could easily have one for breakfast, lunch and snack if I had enough protein powder! To me a good smoothie is possible of replacing ice cream cravings and is the ultimate go to after a hot day in the sun or a sweaty training session.

I recently posted up a cherry lemonade shake and several of you have asked for the recipe. So here you go!

I found the frozen cherries at Trader Joes. For protein, I used vanilla SunWarrior.

It’s delicious! I had some leftover, so I poured them into popsicle molds to enjoy later. Cherries are fabulous for their anti-inflammatory properties. Plus they help muscle recover and decrease soreness. Get them, eat them and blend them!

I don’t think I am the only one that loves a good shake during the warmer months! Am I right?

Which is why I wanted to share a few of my favorite finds from friends. These are all delicious, but I also want to encourage you to get into your kitchen and see what amazing flavors you can come up with!

OhSheGlows.Com: Tropical Raspberry Lime Zinger

What doesn’t sound amazing?

Raspberry’s (and most other berries) are in season right now, making this the time to really enjoy a drink like this. Frozen berries are good, but let’s face it, they don’t compare to fresh!

Angela is queen of smoothies and I have yet to try one of hers that doesn’t taste amazing.

Because I often drink my smoothies, post workout, I would take out the agave and add 1 scoop of protein instead (vanilla will sweeten it enough).

BoulderLocavore: Banana-Peach Almond Smoothie

As a Charleston girl, peaches are something we pride ourselves in. It might surprise people, but peaches are SC’s state fruit (not Georgia’s)… so we are very picky about our peaches. I don’t get them during the year because they simply don’t match the juicy sweetness of a fresh Carolina peach.

I was very excited when they made their first debut last weekend at the farmer’s market. Though, I could tell the first harvest wasn’t quite ready, I could see they aren’t far off.

So when I saw this shake recipe, I immediately pinned it so that when the peach makes it to my home, it will be going into the Vitamix for this!

BrooklynAtlas.com: Green Tea Coconut Smoothie

I Love Love Love matcha (green tea powder), so when I see recipes that include it, I get pretty excited.

I equally love coconut, so it’s double the excitement.

If matcha is new to you, read more about it and it’s benefits here.

For the recipe, I personally removed the yogurt and added in vegan protein powder.

ItzLinz.Com: Meusli Summertime Parfait

No, it’s not a shake but doesn’t it look amazing?

When I think of parfaits I think of vacations. Sitting on a balcony somewhere overlooking the beach and enjoying each and every scoop of this.

While Chobani isn’t vegan, there are several great vegan yogurt options now available. I love the coconut milk yogurts that are stocked at Whole Foods! Perfect for summer time.

And that’s a Friendly Friday. TGIF!
