How To Survive A Bachelorette Party: I’m Not 22 Any More
By admin
This past weekend I hopped in the car and headed up to Charlotte for a fun filled bachelorette party for my college friend, Jennie.
She is getting married at the end of the month, and we couldn’t let her walk down the aisle without a proper party! What kind of friends would we be?
I have to say, going to a bachelorette party in your upper 20s/early 30s is a lot different than in your early 20s. At least for me.
A bachelorette part at 22:
Here was me this past weekend:
Sorry for the blurry picture
Yup, I woke up at 5:45 am to get a workout in. It was great!
Back in the day I can remember suffering for days post parties like this, but I woke up bright eyed both mornings. What can I say, I no longer have the need to drink a bottle of champagne. A glass… sure!
Party Time Recap
The first night, several of us met for dinner at Aria. The ambiance was really nice, and the Tuscan menu looked delicious. Of course, the second we all sat down, the wine was ordered!
To be honest, I was a bit disappointed. I had looked over the menu online and emailed them to ask if any vegan options could be offered. Their menu was very much NOT vegan friendly.
I never received a reply to my request and the waiter told me the only option would be to order pasta with marinara. No thanks. So since we would be drinking, I didn’t want just lettuce. I went for the salmon served over lentils. The lentils were amazing! The salmon was great too, but again I wish I had more options.
After dinner, we headed out for a drink and then hit the hay. We had a busy day planned out for Saturday and didn’t want Jennie to be suffering. Though after the few drinks we did have, I loved when she woke up and looked over at me to announce:
“I am not 22 years old any more.”
No, no we’re not.
Saturday: Nordstrom Personal Shopper Anyone?
Saturday was a blast. After my interval workout (which I’ll post later this week), we got ready for the day and ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant.
Fresh fruit and oatmeal for me = delicious! I was a happy girl.
Jennie had no idea what was on the agenda which made it a lot of fun. We piled into her sister’s car and headed to South Park Mall. This was my favorite place to come when I was in college (Winthrop) so I was happy to see my old stomping ground.
Once there, we headed into Nordstrom to surprise Jennie with her own personal stylist. This is a FREE service that the store offers and I highly HIGHLY recommend it!
Jordon, the stylist, had been emailing with one of the girls in regards to what Jennie likes (they sent her pictures) and her sizes. She picked out clothes and had them all set up for Jennie to try on. It was so much fun and Jennie LOVED it! She needed a few things for the honeymoon so it worked out perfectly. She was so surprised, she shed a few tears!
After hours of shopping, we headed back to the hotel for a lingerie party before heading back out for dinner and a night of bar hopping.
Dinner was at Vida Cantina and I have to say I was so impressed! There were 12 of us, so you can imagine my surprise when they had our orders out in about 10 minutes.
I was also happy that I was able to order a great vegan meal: Mexican salad with beans and portabella mushrooms. Thank you Vida!
I had a moment of panic when I saw this guy. Then I was informed, it was a sculpture. So neat!
My favorite part of the night was the piano bar Howl At The Moon which we hit up next. If you have never been to a dueling piano bar, please go! The audience request songs and they band goes to town. They played everything from Alicia Keys to Boston.
Our last stop was Dale Earnhart Jr’s Bar: Whiskey River. One of the girls had been able to set us up with a VIP balcony. Yea, we felt like rock starts.
We ended the night here, dancing away! That is until I saw that it was 12:30… I had to be home early for some work assignments so I high tailed it back to the hotel.
Told you, I am not 22 any more.
In fact, I only had 4 drinks the entire night! I would have a glass of wine, then water, then wine, then water. Gone are the days of wanting to drink as much as possible, and here are the days of wanting to feel normal the next day!
Just the thought of a hangover, was enough to keep me in check!
Is that sad?
I also had the realization that going out isn’t about what we do, as much as it’s about the time we get to spend with friends. And that time is much better when you can remember it the next day.
Holiday Inn Is Where It’s At
As for where we stayed, it was decided that the Holiday Inn would be the perfect. Located right smack in the center of downtown, it was great! Our longest walk of the weekend was 3 blocks. We also all appreciated the fact that the rooms were priced VERY reasonably. They were clean, the staff was polite, and once my car was parked on Friday afternoon, it wasn’t moved until I left on Sunday morning.
Ever need a place in Charlotte, I definitely recommend the Holiday Inn!
It was a great weekend, and I am so excited for Jennie’s wedding!
Now I just need a dress. Any good recommendations of where to look?
Are you able to close down the bar?
I am a morning person through and through. When I am tired, no matter what I am doing, I will head home. Everyone makes fun of me… I have been known to go to bed when people are still at our house. When I am ready for bed, seriously, I am ready for bed.
