It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
By admin
Happy Sunday! I hope you’ve had a wonderful holiday weekend! Mine has been filled with champagne, Christmas music, and more decorations than they carry at Target!
Christmas has always been a really big deal to my family. The Sunday after Thanksgiving, we put up the tree and all the other decorations. Once Dan and I moved in together, I had to figure out a way to be able to handle decorating my parents’ house and my house. So the tradition that has stuck for the past 6 years is that I decorate our home the Saturday after Turkey Day and then head to my mom and dad’s house Sunday to help them.
That’s a lot of Christmas! But it’s such a great way to kick off the holiday season.
So, yesterday morning I got up at the way too early time of 5 am so I could get my run in… 11 miles knocked off! While I went running Dan took care of the Farmer’s market so we could be efficient with time.
Once we were both home, it was time to reorganize the living room to make space for the tree!
Out with the TV stand AND even the TV! We watch movies on my computer, and we don’t have cable so we decided to just get rid of it all together! So un-American of us.
Then I just sat starring at Dan until he was ready to go and pick it out… yea I was like a little kid but he knows to expect that.
There were so many gorgeous trees to choose from this year. Of course I would have loved to have gotten the $ 275 20 foot tree, but Dan refused to cut a hole in our ceiling (and roof) to make it fit… someone needs some holiday cheer!
Once we got home, champagne was poured, Spotify Christmas music was put on and I set to work turning our “beachy” home into a winter wonderland!

Plain Jane to sparkling beauty! And with a few ornaments this happened…
I have been collecting ornaments for years. My tree is done in butterflies and Old World Ornaments. These are special glass ornaments and each has it’s own meaning. My sister-in-law, Jessica and my mother-in-law support my Christmas obsession by adding to the collection every year! Most of the butterflies are from Dan’s mom and a lot of the Old Worlds are from Jessica and Dan.
Dan and I also add a new “us” ornament to the tree every year. The first one started our first Christmas, back in 2004! We used to play the “punch buggy” game driving so that’s the reason behind it.
Of course the Eagles have to be represented (Dan’s from Phili), this guy was in his stocking last year.
The Irish Santa was a wedding gift, since Dan’s heritage is Irish… and the B was also a wedding gift. We have one of those “First Christmas” ornaments too.
Okay, the avocado… I love this one! It was the ornament we picked out this year together to represent my first year as a Vegan. I think it’s adorable. The owl was from Dan’s sister because we’re both Chi Omegas (sorority) and the owl is the mascot. Dan loves the sand piper which represents “Happy days spent at the beach.” And the pickle… gotta love the pickle! It hides in the branches (it’s only about 1.5 inches tall) and the person that finds it gets good luck.
From the tree is was time to move to the rest of the house. Gotta love Pinterest (you can follow me here)!

This is on our wine table. I love that little Santa!
As for the dining room, I am not completely finished in there yet. And we have some lights to hang up outside which I’ll probably do next weekend. As for now, I am off to house #2 for decorating. It seems all this Christmas stuff has exhausted Nike, so I will leave her and Zoe to rest up!
- When do you start decorating for the holidays?
- Is it wrong to decorate before December?
