Quick But Not Sweet Push-Up Challenge Workout
By admin
I learned a very valuable lesson this week:
**Don’t try to film a workout after an hour of bouldering.**
Its funny how sometimes you’re on fire and feeling like a beast and the next you want to cry like a little girl because you can’t muster a single rep when you know you should.
You can’t always control what your body can and can’t do. It’s humbling and it’s frustrating.
Let’s back up…
Tuesdays mean two things to me…
- Hitting up the climbing gym for an hour of “recess”.
- Filming the workout for the week.
Climbing is new to our routine and something we’re still trying to figure out in terms of scheduling. This week we figured out that climbing before a push-up workout was stupid.
I’m not superhuman (though sometimes I think I am) and my body is always fast to remind me.
As soon as we kicked off the workout, my arms were screaming, begging for me to stop. I was taking rest breaks at times I normally wouldn’t have to and my energy levels were blah.
Okay, perhaps 60 minutes between climbing and filming was dumb. Lesson learned, we’re changing our climbing schedule to fit our work schedule (which is our 1st priority).
At the end of filming, Dan asked if I wanted to post the workout. I knew I felt weak during, but he was quick to tell me I looked weak as well.
My response?
“Of course! I’m human and I have good days and bad days too. Let’s share it!”
So that’s what this workout is… a reminder that we’re not always on fire and that sometimes we have weak days.
It’s also a reminder that a workout that is less than 10 minutes can knock us on our butts. Oh man, I was a sweaty mess. Damn double unders!
Short But Not Sweet Push-up Challenge Workout
This is a great little upper body workout and cardio blast all in one small package. The double unders are crazy intense and bring my heart rate up so quickly!
- Can’t do double unders? Just do double the reps of regular jump rope.
- Don’t have a jump rope? Do high knees instead.
Tips on double unders?
- Keep your chest up, avoid doing tuck jumps (though I find myself doing this sometimes) and commit once you begin to spin the rope faster.
- It’s about spinning the rope faster, not jumping 2x as high!
- Be patient. Trainer confession… for some reason once Dan turned the camera on, my ability to do a single double under disappeared. In fact, I had to re-start this entire workout 3 times before finally getting comfortable and trusting my abilities! Talk about annoying!
Okay, let’s go over the moves…
