Running Survey: How I Run!
By admin
Whoo Hoo! It’s Friday.
And we’re not traveling!? I’m pretty stoked. As much as I love weekend adventures, it’s nice to be in my own bed, with my animals, relaxing.
Though, I’m not sure how much relaxing will take place. This weekend is our Annual Summer Field Day… all of our boot camps come together and compete for THE Golden Kettlebell! It’s kind of a big deal.
And a blast! Make sure to follow along on Instagram to see some of the chaos that goes on.
So yesterday, I was finally able to meet up with my friend Erica for a quick run. It’s been ages since we’ve run together and it was a great reminder of how much fun it is to run with a friend.
Who needs coffee dates when you can have run dates?
After the run, I noticed my other friend, Tiny (real name Amy Lauren) post a running survey on her blog and I just had to copy.
Running is on my brain, I’m getting my mojo back and I thought it would be a fun way to end the week.
Yes?
Cool…
Running Survey: How I Run
1. —> Would you rather run on a beach path or mountain trail?
I love both, but I think it’s no surprise that mountain running is my favorite.
It’s hard but the views at the top of the best reward. Looking out at the top of a mountain makes me feel so small and in awe of this world.
Plus, running downhill after a tough uphill climb is pretty much the best thing ever.
2. —>If you could choose the flavor of Gatorade at your next race’s aid stations, what would it be?
I only like gatorade when I run, I guess because I have the sweat glands of a 300 pound man… I lose so much salt.
I learned during the Quest Race that salty gatorade is the best! And if it’s blue gatorade, it’s even better.
Give me a gatorade when I’m not running, and I won’t take a sip.
3. —>If I gave you a $ 100 gift card to a running store, what would you purchase with it?
I would get a new hydration pack! Mine broke during our last hike and I have been putting off ordering a new one. Whoever “you” are, wanna send me that $ 100 gift card?
4. —> Do you prefer to follow a training plan, or wake up and decide how far and fast you want to go?
Training plan all the way! I suck if I don’t have a plan to follow and will allow too many excuses to stop me.
But give me a plan, and I hate not marking off my “to-dos” for the day. It will get done. I actually just designed my new training plan earlier this week. So far so good!
5. —>Would you rather start your run with an uphill and end with a downhill, or start with a downhill and end with an uphill?
Funny, Dan and I talked about this on backpacking weekend…
I would never, ever, EVER choose to run downhill and finish uphill. For me, it’s easy… I want the hard part to be over with and finish with a nice downhill. But then again, downhill running is one of my strengths.
For my insane husband, he said he would like to try the downhill first, since his strength is uphill.
6. —>When you can’t run, what kind of cross training do you choose to do?
Kettlebells! You knew I was going to say that.
7. —>What is your preference: out-and-back, point-to-point, or loop?
Out and back! I like knowing, I’m half way done. And the back portion always seems to go by faster.
Quick fun fact about me… when I run in loops 99% of the time, I run in a counterclockwise direction. I hate having to go clockwise. I have no idea why this is.
8. —>If you could recommend any running gear or items to a new runner, what would it be?
Moving Comfort Sports Bra! I think too many women skip out of good sports bras but one thing I learned is that no matter how busty you are, there is no excuse for doubling up. It just takes finding a good bra.
My Moving Comfort bras are the BEST! Love them!
9. –>Do you see any animals on your runs?
Yes! A perk of trail running. Above was a quick run in Colorado!
Just yesterday, we saw a mom and baby deer, and a turtle. I’ve seen countless snakes and we even saw a bear when leaving a race!
10. –> Ever gotten lost while on a run?
Only once. It was years ago. At the time, the farthest I had run was 6 miles. Then I went on a run, got lost and ended up running 10. I felt like a badass.
11. –> If you could have one meal ready and waiting for you at home after each run for the next 30 days what would it be?
I don’t crave food after a run. So, instead it would be an iced latte!
12. –> Capris or shorts? Which do you run in most?
Shorts. You have to be careful with capris, some tend to slide down and become more of a pain than they’re worth.
13. –> At what mile (or how many minutes) into a run do you feel like your body is completely warmed up?
After 2 miles… exactly.
Everyone that runs with me knows this. It’s as if suddenly a fire ignites and my pace picks up without me realizing it.
14. –> What do you do with your key when you run?
Depends. For short runs, it gets tied to my shoelaces.
For longer runs and trail runs, I put it in my hydration pack. If my shorts have a zipper pocket (I don’t trust the fold over pockets), I will use that.
15. –> If you could relive any race that you’ve done in the past, what would it be?
I don’t have a race I would re-do. The good ones were great and the bad races were lessons. I like to look forward to the next race than to think about the past ones.
But I did love doing the Battery To The Beach run with Jeanette. We should re-do it soon!
16. –> What type of run is your least favorite?
Tempo Runs. I don’t do them. I need to but I don’t. They’re hard and boring. I need friends to make me do them. Anyone up for it?
17. –> When you go for a run, do you leave from your front door or go somewhere to start?
Always drive somewhere. My neighborhood is not a good running area. Normally I run downtown or in Crowfield.
18. –> When running in daylight, are sunglasses a must or just an annoyance?
Depends. For road running, sunglasses are a must. They help a ton. For trail races where you’re in and out of shade, they are an annoyance.
I’ve even tossed sunglasses at an aid station during a trail race because they drove me crazy!
19. –> When you get tired, what keeps you from quitting?
Disappointment. I think of how disappointed I will be if I stop. I think of how disappointed Dan will be if I stop.
I also repeat the mantra, “She believed she could, so she did” over and over again when I start to drag. It helps SO much!
Now it’s your turn…
