The Rare Occasion It’s Okay To Celebrate Success With Foods
By admin
Happy Friday!
We made it. What are you most excited about?
Me??
To catch up on sleep!
I haven’t slept much at all over the past 7 days, and I am as giddy as a kid on Christmas Eve at the thought of sleeping 8+ hours two nights in a row! YES!
I’m also excited about pizza night!
Several of you have asked when I’m getting my “treat”. So let’s chat about that…
A few weeks ago, I told you that Dan and I picked out our “treats” if we made it through the race.
For me it was a Dairy Queen’s ice cream cake and for Dan, it was Mellow Mushroom’s pizza.
Yes, I know… I know.
Many of you shared your thoughts that we shouldn’t treat these kind of foods like prizes or “treats”.
If we want them, we should get them (it’s all about moderation).
It’s not that we purposely avoid these foods, it is simply that we don’t eat out a lot and are quite happy to make our own pizzas or grab frozen yogurt for a sweet treat.
And let’s face it, cakes are for special events. I don’t think I’ve ever BOUGHT a cake just because.
Cakes serve a purpose… celebrating!
We simply don’t crave these foods even though we love them.
What Would You Do?
If someone were to ask you what you would want to eat if you could have anything, I’m going to guess it wouldn’t be a salad. Though I will admit this salad was last night’s dinner and was delicious!
If you have an Earth Fare, promise me you’ll try their curried chicken salad. Yum!
Am I right?
So we had fun during training coming up with our “if we succeed at this race and could have anything” option.
I would say that I am not trying to validate our decision to eat crap for our fitness successes, but essentially that’s exactly what I’m doing.
Trust me there were times during that run where I said aloud… “Dairy Queen will be mine!” as motivation to keep going. Hilarious, perhaps. But it worked!
And Dairy Queen was mine.
A Trip To Dairy Queen
We unfortunately, don’t have a Dairy Queen in Charleston, so on the way back we stopped in Spartenburg, SC for lunch. Well, I guess you could call a Carmel Truffle Blizzard a lunch.
What!? No cake?!?!
Nope.
We looked at the cakes and we looked at the Blizzards, and the Blizzards called to me. They said, “Taylor, eat me instead”. So that’s what I did. Plus, let’s face it… traveling 3 hours with an ice cream cake probably wouldn’t have been the smartest idea.
I will say that each bite of my Blizzard tasted amazing, and I was not disappointed.
But Dan did promise me that ONE DAY we’ll get there real deal Dairy Queen Ice Cream Cake!
I wonder if they ship??
Mellow Mushroom, Can You Handle Us?
As for Dan’s pizza?
I am quite certain that there will be no settling when it comes to Mellow Mushroom.
Dan has been dreaming about that cheesy, chewy, delicious pizza for weeks now. I only hope they don’t disappoint and the pizza lives up to the vision in his head.
Going off Mellow Mushroom’s Instagram, I think it’s safe to say he should be happy!
So this Friday, we will get fancied up (which just means getting out of fitness clothes) to have a “romantic” date at Mellow Mushroom.
Is It Okay To Eat For Rewards?
Normally, no.
I would never recommend to my clients to grab a cookie because they dropped 5 pounds. Or to celebrate a job promotion with an ice cream binge.
HOWEVER, under special circumstances, such as literally working your ass off for the past 12 weeks, yes, I’m going to celebrate with food. And I’m going to love every single delicious bite!
Haha, Don’t worry I’ll make sure to share our Quest Celebration on Instagram!
