The Time I Did Crossfit For #50StatesInAYear
By admin
Hola Friends!
This weekend was insane, in the best way possible.
After going back and forth on making up my mind, I packed up my car Friday and headed to Asheville to spend the weekend with my family visiting my grandparents.
Of course, I also used it as an excuse to get some hiking in!
The plan was to stop half way (Harbison Park) to hit some trails, but because of recent heavy rain, the trails were closed. Bummer.
I wasn’t going to let that stop me, and instead I drove to Chimney Rock for a stair workout.*
I ended up completing the climb 3 times in about 45 minutes. And was rewarded with this view each time…
Learning To Forgive
As for the trip itself…
I had been on the fence due to some past family drama but after spending some time reflecting on myself and my family, I decided to leave the past in the past and allow my heart to forgive. Best decision ever.
I feel as if 500 pounds has been lifted off my chest, and my heart feels so much happier.
It was a big deal. But I’m so glad because I would have missed out on moments like these had I let my pride and pain get in the way…
I used to love watching my dad fish. Now that torch has been passed to my 3 year old niece. And I loved sharing something I love so much with her… being outside!
My Dad, Grandfather, Grandmother, Uncle
Something else that was a big deal?
The Time I Did Crossfit
I visited Blue Ridge Crossfit for a workout on Saturday morning! My calves were pretty sore from Chimney Rock, but I knew a good workout would help stretch them out.
As soon as I decided I was going to Asheville, I contacted my blogger friend, Lindsay, to see if we could meet up together for a workout. She said she was going be attending a charity event at a local Crossfit just 25 minutes from where I was staying, and I jumped on board by inviting myself along.
It was great to see her and Katie. Katie is another blogger who created #50StatesInAYear, a charity project where she and a friend travel the country to different Crossfit Boxes to hold charity driven workouts. All the donations of the class go towards their cause.
Pretty cool, right? I was happy to be able to participate!
In fact, lots of people were happy to participate… there were over 40 people in attendance. Only a handful of us were visitors, but everyone was extremely welcoming.
Lindsay shared with me it was her first Crossfit workout, and since my previous experience with them was over 8 years ago, I nodded in agreement.
Our workout?
Daniel
After spending the first half hour going over basic information like the warm-up, exercise fundamentals, and the actual workout, it was time to go.
Daniel is a timed workout, you race to try and complete it as quickly as possibly, while making sure to keep form spot on.
Here’s the workout:
Daniel
50 Pull-Ups
400 Meter Run
21 Thrusters
800 Meter Run
21 Thrusters
400 Meter Run
50 Pull-Ups
The “RX” amount for the thrusters was 95-pounds. Um, nope. Not going to happen.
Lindsay and I both went with 65 pounds. As for the pull-ups? I started with strict and then after about 20 switched over to a band for the remainder of the workout. Those things are brutal!
I finished right around 20 minutes, feeling as if my arms were disconnected from my body.
Overall, it was a great workout and I am still feeling it today. But it was even better because I got to workout with a great group of people for an even better cause!
The money raised Saturday will be used to buy winter coats for kids that can’t afford them. Love that!
Definitely find out more about 50 States In A Year to see if they’re making a stop near you soon! After all, working out for yourself is great, but helping someone else in the process? Priceless.
I was just sad that I didn’t have more time to spend with Lindsay and Katy. But thankful for the hour!
As for my Crossfit experience? I really can’t say anything negative at all. The coaches were extremely motivating and helpful. The “athletes” working out were all supportive, yelling “Good Job!” and dishing out high fives. And the workout, just what I expected.
I won’t be drinking the Crossfit Cool-aid anytime soon but I did love my time at Blue Ridge!
