The Workout You Can’t Escape: Domestic Duties Burn Calories
By admin
Happy Friday, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! It was great taking the day off to relax with family and unwind. I can’t say that my eating was spot on, but it was Thanksgiving so that’s my excuse. I may have even eating a slice of carmel praline cheesecake! Call the vegan cops, have me locked away. It was delicious too, and I didn’t feel one twinge of guilt. I would have felt guilty if I hadn’t of tried it because my mom has spent so much time on it.
I have to say though, I stuck to small portions so while everyone around me was stuffed, I felt great! Did you stuff yourself yesterday?
Domestic Duty Day
Every Friday I run around like a chicken with my head cut off. I call it Domestic Duty Day… grocery shopping, errands, and house scrubbing… all the things we don’t want to do but have to.
Is it just me or does anyone else ever clean their house in amazement at all the dust bunnies that build up during the week? No wonder they’re called dust bunnies… start with one and they multiple like rabbits.
The price you pay for pets, good thing mine are cute.
By the time I am done scrubbing the last bathroom (the last room I hit), I am exhausted. I always tell Dan, I feel like I just ran 5 miles! And that got me to wondering, just how many calories do we burn doing our “domestic chores”?
Let’s break it down by my typical Friday!
- 6:30 am: teach boot camp
- 8:30 am: 30 burpees completed
- 9:00 am: teach boot camp
- 10:45 – 12: 15pm: grocery shopping and other errands
- 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm: scrub house
- 5:30 pm cook dinner
After that it’s pretty much time to sit and relax, except for tonight because we have to head to the gym to get a few videos recorded for the websites… so there are a few more mini-workouts and such I’ll be doing. But for the sake of Domestic Duty Day, we won’t count that.
Okay… so drum roll please!
Here’s the breakdown:
- 30 burpees: ~75 calories
- Shopping for 1.5 hours: 200 calories
- Cleaning 2 hours: 400 calories
- Cooking 45 minutes: 100 calories
TOTAL CALORIE BURN: 775 calories!
No wonder I am tired… it really is like I went on a decent length run.
Dan asked me just a little while ago if I wanted to go workout, I just smiled and laughed. No thanks, I got my workout in for the day.
If you’re curious as to how many calories you burn here’s the site I used: CalorieCount.about.com
Now, I am off to practice for the video and prep for tomorrow’s run club! After all, I have some turkey day food to burn off still!
Have a wonderful Friday!
- Do you have 1 day you devote to cleaning/errands?
